Buzzy Manx Dodd
“A Friend for All Seasons”
After studying the Manx breed characteristics we decided to get Buzzy from the Mistysprings Cattery in Kentucky. My late husband liked the “Buzz Lightyear” character and decided to call the kitten Buzzy. For most of his early years Buzz was shy and would not come around strangers. That has changed as he has matured.
At age 12, Buzzy has become more playful. He plays tag with me, ventures out onto the deck to rest in the fresh air, and goes to the edge of the yard when nature calls. If I happen to be working in the flowers he will join me to help out. He follows me wherever I go in the house very much like a dog. When I arrive home, he first jumps down from his chair, as if he is scared, then he does a little runaround kicking up his heels. This is his way of greeting me. When I am combing his hair or scratching him, he constantly licks me. The more you scratch the more he licks. If you stop too soon he reaches out and taps you with his paw.
Buzzy isn’t letting medical issues slow him down. In recent years he has developed diabetes and thyroid and pancreatic issues. Thanks to the doctors at Cat Clinic North we have all of these problems under control.
There are two female cats in the house that give each other grief. If Buzzy happens to be near the action, they sometimes get aggressive with him. His attitude is “he could care less,” and takes his sweet old time walking away. He is truly a soft spoken gentleman from the south.
