Chemotherapy

No one likes to be told their pet has cancer. At the Kentwood Cat Clinic and Cat Clinic North, we take great care in explaining what is going on inside your cat, as well as what the options are for treatment. If chemotherapy is decided upon, the doctor will discuss with you the schedule of medications, and prescribe the needed medicines. Conveniently, there is a hospital in Grand Rapids that works with human chemotherapy patients, and they will fill prescriptions for our feline patients as well!

The schedule for administering chemotherapy drugs varies for every patient, according to the type of cancer being treated. Medications can be in tablet form, or injectable drugs, which need to be administered into a vein. Depending on the type of medications that the veterinarian prescribes, you will either be giving the oral medicines on schedule at home, or the cat will come into the clinic for the day for us to administer the injectable drugs. The chemotherapy drugs can affect the kidney function, so we will monitor blood values on schedule as well, including a complete blood count (CBC) and certain blood chemistries. We pride ourselves on taking care of the family’s concerns as well as treating the patient with utmost care. Please contact us if you would like more information.
